An additional 21 seconds was played in the first half with an added 2 minutes in the second.

This is an excellent Maccabi Haifa side. Tonight, in temperatures that hit 78c, they ensured their place in the next round of the Champions League a week before the second leg at the Oval.

In a fairly even first half it was Rafaelov’s 36th minute goal which separated the sides at half-time. A cross from the left wasn’t dealt with by three or four defenders and it was hit home from 15 yards.

Two goals in a three minute spell all but ended our chances of progressing to the next round. In the 52ndminute Katan scored from 17 yards smashing the ball into Elliott Morris’s top left hand corner. Three minutes later Dvalishvili scored the first of his two goals heading in from five yards from a cut back on the left. In the 81st minute he scored his second by controlling a long pass just inside the box and firing a cross shot past Elliott to make it 4-0.

Two minutes later it was five when Arbeitman scored with a seven yard header from a right wing cross and the scoring ended in the 89th minute when Shahbary slotted home from eight yards.

The Glens almost got on the scoresheet in the 74th minute when Daryl Fordyce almost reached a Kyle Neill cross, but it wasn’t to be.

I don’t think we can pull back six goals next week (!), but we need to bring some a bit of respect to the aggregate scoreline. Can we do it? Time will tell.

With a last kick winner the Glens kept up their good start to the domestic season with a 2-1 win at Portadown.
What followed that goal was the most unsavoury sights seen in a football ground for a number of years. At the final whistle a spectator ran from the new stand which contained only Portadown fans and attacked Gary Hamilton. Full credit to the players for intervening and stopping what could have turned into a full scale riot. Portadown will be heavily sanctioned because of this. May I suggest erecting a fence in front of the stand? Or is that too simple?
Back to the game and the Glens turned in a good second half performance after a poor first. It was a 14th minute free kick which gave the Ports the lead. A deflection lifted the ball over Elliott Morris's hand and into the net. The Glens should have had a penalty just before half-time when Richard Clarke was fouled inside the box.
Johnny Taylor headed home the equaliser in the 83rd minute from a Kyle Neill corner. Then came Gary's winner. Magnificent!!
